Miharo Lane was our own dream home, designed and constructed just before the pandemic with simple rural living in mind. Set on 5.89 hectares of Central Otago land, the residence draws its language from the dramatic landscape it sits inside: rugged rock faces, golden tussock, and the stunning natural woodlands of Kanuka that mark this part of the district.
The architectural idea is direct. A long, low form anchored by stone and warmed by timber. Triple-glazed natural-timber windows frame the views without competing with them. A deck wraps the entire home, blurring the line between living and landscape. Two large outbuildings provide for the workshop, the guest, and the visitor.
We designed Miharo Lane for the way we actually wanted to live: long open kitchens, deep verandahs, big skies. It's a house that lets the weather happen around you rather than locking it out.
